I finally found the reason: Obviously there are problems with NFS. When I
symlink the ~/.openoffice1.9.79 directory to outside of the NFS tree, everything
works ok (well, almost; see #36634). It also works by directly calling
soffice.bin (which doesn't set SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING).

The README file in /opt/openoffice1.9.79 says something about NFS locking, but
as I read it, it only applies to the combination Solaris client/Linux server. If
not, that note should be changed accordingly.

The README also states that the variable SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING in the soffice
script is disabled by default, which isn't true. That also should be corrected.
