OK, thanks for the answer; I'll rewrite it as two SUM()s and sum those cells.

But I will re-phrase the problem as: Open Office fails to warn me when saving as
xls format that my SUM() will be lost. Or alternatively (as the file I was
editing was loaded as an xls), fails to warn me when I create the SUM() that I
cannot use more than 30 entries. Or an "dumb-down for xls option" that won't let
me create a SUM() with more than 30 entries in the first place.
