The store where I bought it fooled around with it for two days, then gave up, suggesting I try a different model. I did. The new one is running Vista Business (the old one was Vista Home Premium). With the new computer, there appears to be no problem cutting from a web page and pasting into OOo. Therefore, 1) I no longer have the problem myself and 2) I no longer have a means of testing proposed solutions.
