explained in an example:

I open a database file. whe I switch to the table view ooo-base tries to connect
to the actual database (oracle-odbc) to retrieve table information.

this oeration on ooo-base takes a very long time (which is not the point of this
issue). So ooo-base is blocked.

But it's not only the database component that is blocked, the whole office suite
is unuseable as long as this database operation continues. I.e. I cannot switch
to an already opened writer document and I cannot open another writer document
or work with any of the other components.

I should be able to continue work in writer or calc while a database operation
is running in background.
