It actually makes sense to get the system wide encoding (through gsl_getSystemTextEncoding), instead of using text encoding (through DDE_TXT_ENCODING) I definitely am not an openoffice developer or anything for saying that, but what I know is that it works!! Ok, any chance this could be incorporated into openoffice so I don't have to be patching the sources everytime??? (I mean, I'm happy to do it if it's what's required to keep things working, but changing one line in the main trunk makes sense when it solves a problem like this one!)
