As far as I can tell, this is entirely dependent on the Luxi PFA font files. I
tried several other pfa files on my system--all of the Luxi fonts (Sans, Serif
and Mono) showed the same or similar spacing problems. The 2 or 3 other pfa
fonts I have showed no problems with this sample file.

I just ran my Luxi Sans Bold pfa file through fontforge and generated a ttf font
file and it works perfectly--no spacing problem with this sample file.

Since it seems to be specific to the particular font files (not all pfa files),
and the Luxi fonts are available as TTF (which has no problem), I suggest either
leaving as UNCONFIRMED (there is some kind of problem, since 2.0.4 generates
correct PDF output), or resolving as either INVALID, WONTFIX or WORKSFORME.

I don't see much point in pursuing this, but if you want to test it on another
system (I don't have an easy way to try another Linux system), email me and I
will provide the Luxi pfa font files.
