Here is the original file created in Excel. http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/economics/staff/faculty/barankay/openofficeproblem.xls To show what happens this is a pdf file created when opening the file in Excel: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/economics/staff/faculty/barankay/verticalfromexcel.pdf and this is a pdf file created when opening the file in OO: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/economics/staff/faculty/barankay/verticalfromOO.pdf I searched hard but could not see this problem resolved elsewhere. Of course it is possible to then manually edit the text box so that text is displayed vertically again but that is not ideal. I found this in previous versions but it remains in OOo 2.2.
