now *thats* the sort of backtrace I've sort of suspected,

#7 0x02269a86 in SalDisplay::GetKeyboardName () from
perhaps trying to make a little program which just has effectively...
int main(...
{
...
XkbGetKeyboard( GetDisplay(), XkbAllComponentsMask, XkbUseCoreKbd )) )
...
}
and see does such a standalone program suffer the same problems
