Do you use the non-free nvidia drivers or the one shipped with X11? (see in /etc/X/xorg.conf for either "nvidia" (proprietary) or "nv" (free) in the drivers section) Try to use the "fbdev" driver and see if this still happens (you might have a nasty screen geometry but it should be sufficient to test how the application behaves). Furthermore: Do you have the desktop effects enabled? Strange enough i can confirm the issue (I've seen the same behavior on my wife's PC with an ATI card). I solved it by using a different video driver.
