------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Mar 7 04:29:53 -0800 2005 ------- I have been thinking about this. We insert an end-of-paragraph with the CR key, and no-one thinks that is odd. The word processor does all the stuff to end a paragraph. we use ctrl-CR for a page feed, for example. So what we need is an end-of-sentance key. Why not use the full stop key? OK, it should also insert a full stop - but that is an attribute of the sentance [1] Then for abbreviations, we would need an end-of-abbreviation key - e.g ctrl-fullstop, by analogy with page feed. Decimal places could either be differentiated by context, or restricted to the numeric keypad. All we would then need is some sort of tip in the light bulb to tell new users about the end-of-abbreviation case - the end-of-sentance one would work with minimal astonishment if used naievely, and produce exactly the same effect as at present. [1] we could have a sentance style, with the terminating character user definable, like the thousands separator. It could allow users to specify the number of spaces between sentances too, such as 1, 1.5, 2, or a fixed size. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
