------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue May 8 21:26:45 +0000 2007 ------- >From 3 weeks ago, I've been working only on OOo 2.2 Calc using Excel files in >my Windows Vista machine. Sometimes I use hibernation instead of shutting down, leaving sometimes files open in Calc and other apps. I was glad everything was working ok until some of my spreadsheets could not be opened, in Calc and Excel neither. The message in Excel was (XP and 2003 versions of excel): The format is not valid. The message in Calc (2.2 and 2.0): General error: input/output error. I looked for backups of my files: in one case, I could open my backup. In the other case, my backup could not be opened either, showing the same error message. Another file instead of the error messaged described earlier, showed me a box asking me to select the filter to use, and when choosing Excel 97/2000/XP it then showed the message Unknown Excel format. Other spreadsheets were not corrupted. I'm sorry that I can't detail how to reproduce the problem, since I myself can't see what could have I done that triggered this problem. The spreadsheets do not containg charts, links, or other advanced tools, they just contain some formulas, cell formatting (dates, currencies, background colors), and several sheets in each file. Finally I could recover my files using the repair option in Excel 2003, which at first could not repair the files, but when clicking the button "Extract data" and then "Recover formulas" the files were recovered. Data and formulas were recovered, and all formatting was lost. The repaired files where plain white, without borders, colors, number formatting, etc. One thing I noticed, I compared the broken files with earlier copies, and they grew quite a bit in size, even compared with the newly repaired files saved in Excel. Hope this helps, and thank you. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
