For further investigation of this issue use switch gzip=true added to the update-url (e.g. http://update.services.openoffice.org/ProductUpdateService/check.Update?gzip=true). Attached Wireshark file of case: Sending data from OOo on fma-1 to webcache:8080 webcache requests data from fma-1 backend, get gzipped data send it back to OOo on fma-1. No header data seems to be corrupted and no content is loss.
