The automatic updater in this and possibly other versions of OO causes a DoS on
proxy servers that requires authentication. It seems like the automatic updater
in OO just keeps trying to access the update site regardless of the request
being rejected by the proxy. We see many attempts to access the update site
every second in the proxy logs. At one site a single OO workstation generated
more than 25GB of proxy access logs just for this in a single month! At other
sites we had problems where the proxy would regularly fail to serve legitimate
requests due to the high load generated by 'n few OO clients on the network.

The problem can easily be fixed by turning off automatic updates, but many of
our clients don't know about this issue and leaves the setting at its default
value.
