------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Jun 5 05:53:29 +0000 2007 ------- Gnome uses a file called ~/.recently-used to track "Recent Items": it's an XML store of files the user has recently accessed. If this file becomes malformed, OpenOffice.org cannot open any document and crashes instead. I've seen this behavior with every OpenOffice release from the 2.0 RCs onward, on Gnome 2.10.2 through Gnome 2.18.1, on Gentoo AMD64 Linux and 64-bit Ubuntu Fiesty. It affects at least Writer and Calc; haven't tested the other components. To reproduce: 1. Replace ~/.recently-used with malformed version (which I will attach here if I can work out how). 2. Open an OpenOffice document. It doesn't matter how: e.g. you can start Writer and select a document from File -> Recent Documents, or File -> Open, or you can simply (double-)click an OpenOffice file in Nautilus. In the bottom (status?) bar OpenOffice displays: "Loading document" and a progress bar. When the progress bar is completely filled, OpenOffice vanishes and is replaced by a window with the heading "OpenOffice.org Document Recovery." It invites me to recover the document (if I proceed, it will crash again). --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
