I'd suggest the usual suspects. Please try the latest stable release (1.1.4) first, your report was for 1.0.0 which is fairly old. It would be nice if you could then also verify whether your problems still occur in 2.0 Beta. If you do indeed have trouble installing on Win9x let me know and open another issue.
