The strange thing is NOT that second file does have "fields in plain text", the
strange this is the fact that OpenOffice.org opens first file without complains!

$ unzip -t OOo\ Writer\ fields\ reminder.odt
Archive: OOo Writer fields reminder.odt
    testing: mimetype OK
    testing: Configurations2/statusbar/ OK
    testing: Configurations2/accelerator/current.xml OK
    testing: Configurations2/floater/ OK
    testing: Configurations2/popupmenu/ OK
    testing: Configurations2/progressbar/ OK
    testing: Configurations2/menubar/ OK
    testing: Configurations2/toolbar/ OK
    testing: Configurations2/images/Bitmaps/ OK
    testing: content.xml OK
    testing: styles.xml OK
testing: meta.xml bad CRC db6ec2d8 (should be 28342f86)
    testing: Thumbnails/thumbnail.png OK
    testing: settings.xml OK
    testing: META-INF/manifest.xml OK
At least one error was detected in OOo Writer fields reminder.odt.

Surely errors in ZIP package should not be just silently ignored ?

If svn can not be teached to open ZIP file and change meta information there
then it should be enhancement request, not defect: right now ALL information in
ODF file is in ZIP container and is protected by CRC (weak as it is).
