I can 100% reproduce this with my installation of the official Sun 2.2.1
release. Steps as follows:

1) Start Impress, choose to begin with a new blank presentation.
2) Select Insert->Object->OLE Object...
3) Choose "Create new" and choose "OpenOffice.org 2.2 Drawing" as the object
type.
4) A new embedded drawing object appears on the slide. (Note, this is fully
functional)
5) Without touching the drawing object, click outside it (i.e. on the slide) so
as to close the OLE in-place editor.
6) Impress crashes and offers document recovery.

If before step (5) you edit the drawing object, then these changes are saved and
recovered ok.
