In general the Java GUI Installer isn't meant to install a new OOo version
beside an older version. If you have installed OOo 2.2 as root the installer of
OOo 2.3 will detect the installation and will update it. What you can do is to
install OOo 2.3 with your user account. For testing purpose it should be ok for
you. andreasma has given you also a hint how to install OOo beside an older
version. It is not a 'normal' user scenario to install more than one of the same
application side by side. For details see
