So I try a concise description, because it's really that simple: Double-click on a word and don't release the button after the second click. Now move the mouse around and you see that the selection snaps to word boundaries. Now try that while holding the Control-key which per default turns on the Additional Selection Mode. That's all. ((Regarding my longer description: STRG is a german abbreviation for Control.
