I noticed it for the first time with one of the built-in envelope sizes and have since reproduced it for most of the sizes smaller than A4 (i.e. those that will actually fit in my printer), including custom size at various widths. As I said before, it only appeared to happen in OOo. Microsoft Word (the closest I have to Writer) prints all papersizes just fine. Most programs don't support as wide a range of papersizes as Word or Writer, but those that they support print fine. To rule out a corrupt or buggy driver I have just tried it with the driver for a similar HP printer: the LaserJet 1100, which also expects its paper to be centered in the tray, if I'm not mistaken.
