Sorry, but what fails?

I cannot deduct what you mean by:

When I try to run tcsh, I get an error saying "Badly placed ()'s".

What is the *excact* sequence of commands that you enter and in which shell?

Secondly, check your cygwin installation. This:

gcc: installation problem, cannot exec `as': No such file or directory

looks like you are missing some more packages or there is a problem with your
installation. "as" is part of binutils and a dependency to gcc, so it should be
there. Start cygwin's setup to add the missing packages.

You can also use `cygcheck -c` to see if you have broken packages and you should
reinstall them if that is the case.

Oh, and by the way, please do not open issues for build problems, write to the
mailing lists and ask for help or guidance. As I said before,
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
would be the right one.

Please reopen this issue if it really turns out to be a real problem with the
openoffice build environment.
