When creating a Writer document beyond about the fourth page, after setting
composite font styles (for example, bold and underline) and typing characters,
one or more of the previously set font styles cannot be changed using the
keyboard commands, menu or toolbar buttons.

If default formatting is forced through ctrl+shit+space the style can be altered
-- but this will also cancel any other special formatting (font, size, etc.).

I can provide a file demonstrating this issue.

This occurs on WinXP Pro and WinXP Home, but does not occur on Linux versions of
OOo 2.3.
