I'm in Impress, showing the Notes, and I select View->Master->Notes Master. Now there is apparently no way to get back to the original Notes view. The same thing happens with View->Master->Slide Master; once you have selected it, there is no way to get back to the original "Normal" view of the slides. View->Notes Page and View->Normal get you back to the respective Master pages, not to the notes and slides as one would expect.
