@ralphie: the patch I worked out works for TrueType only, I'm not sure of what
happens with Type1 fonts you mentioned in desc20 above, I have very few of them
installed.

I agree with you the solution you proposed in desc8 above is better, but I
needed a temporary solution for myself, so I though I shared it.
What I think correct would be to use the patch in desc15 to temporarily use what
is on the platform, at the same time start to think about a fitting UI.
