it probably relates dircetly to issue 26648 - but here, it's under Writer, and
the rationale for that older issue's invalidity doesn't apply in my opinion.

Aim: I'm opening a text-only file using Writer, clean it up using macros, and I
apply some styles so as to make it look more 'modern'. Lastly, I apply a
specific font and page margins.
To that end, I created a new document template adding two styles (one page
style, one paragraph style), and defined it as default.

When creating a new document, the 'custom' template is indeed used; however,
when I open a text file, the original template is still used, and I miss my
custom styles.

I haven't managed to find a workaround (over than open the text file, open a new
empty document, copy-paste) - it would be nice if, on the same menu where OOo
asks for character encoding, one could also select a template - or at the very
least, that text files import used the user-defined default template.

I mean, many text files look best when opened with a fixed width font, for
example - the default OOo template is no good in that case.
