Everything below pertains to Math markup.

The following markup expression is illegal:

{ x newline y }

I understand that curly braces serve grouping//compound statement purpose and 
newline logically contradicts it in most of the cases.

However it would be nice to be able to apply font, size (well and color perhaps)
as follows:

size +1 { some newline thing }

or

font sans { foo  newline  boo }

I would not consider it a bug or something serious.
yet I wonder why it was chosen to disallow { x newline y  }.
