He opened a Word document in OOo that had images and text. Everything displayed correctly until he copied some images and text from the Word document and tried to paste them into a new OOo document. The images did not show up in the OOo document and there was some sort of place- holder instead. From that point on, editing via copy-and-paste was completely broken, even for text only.
