I am using the Open Office from Ubuntu Gutsy (2.3.0), openoffice.org-core
1:2.3.0-1ubuntu5 (for the precise package name)

The issue comes with shortcuts for bold, italics, subscript, superscript etc.
When typing and you want to make one word bold, you type along the line, then
press Ctrl+B type the word, then type Ctrl+B again to take you off bold and
continue on with the line. The same is true if you are writing things such as
the Sodium Ion (Na<superscript>+) and so forth. However, here lies the issue:

When typing if you type in regular font for several words, then press ctrl+B,
the text goes into bold mode. However, then when you press ctrl+B after the word
nothing happens. Clicking on the Bold icon at the top of the page also does
nothing, and the button either locks highlighted (in bold mode) or blank
(outside of bold mode). The same is also true as mentioned of moving into and
out of subscript, superscript and italics, and I presume other font modes too.

Interestingly, the bold issue disappears for a word when you press enter, taking
you to a new line, you can then turn bold on/off fine for a word, but then the
problem reasserts itself. This is not the case for subscript and superscript,
where the issue stands.
