I had my font arial in $HOME/.fonts and openoffice m85 did not see it, but gnome
and kde did. I moved the font to /usr/local/share/fonts/TTF and restarted xfs
and reloaded OpenOffice and I could now see arial in OOo.

the ~/.fonts directory WAS/IS in fonts.conf. This is a Fedora Core 3 install in
i386.

Moving arial.ttf back to ~/.fonts makes it disappear from OOo's font list. But
it still works in KDE and gnome. I did regen the fontmap files when I did this
as well.
