Probably the only reason for this is backward compatibility in regard to how
Math formulas are rendered. 

But if we discuss the ':' we should also have a look at ',' ';' and maybe even
'.' (even though it will be hard to note any difference between an italic and a
non-italic '.').
Also how about '?' '!' ?
Anything else missing?

TL->MRU: Do you think we need User-Experience for that many though small 
changes?
