In version 2.2.x of OOO Base (on Ubuntu 7.04) you could select Microsoft Access as a file type to connect to. In version 2.3 on Ubuntu 7.10 this choice is no longer available. I removed the Ubuntu specific packages and reinstalled using the download from OpenOffice.org and the Microsoft Access is still not available in the filetype list.
