I took a brief look at this. 

If I understand correctly, this is a co-/contra-variance issue, in Java 1.5 it
seems to be allowed that a method of a subclass reduces the "throws" clause. 
If I got Caolan's patch right, he suggests to compile as Java 1.5.

This seems to contradict out Java policy, which requires 1.3 compliance.

Is this correct so far?
