Hi kapalagin,

you are right using the default chart button. 
I have changed my symbol bars and added the chart button to the standard symbol
bar. I didn't keep in mind writing this issue.
With this button I can create in OOo 2.3.1 and 680m140 (Pavels build) a diagram
in a protected table. 
But there is strange behaviour after creating the diagram in a protected table. 
Deselect the the diagram by clicking in a cell you can't select the diagram
anymore (I think thats normal). Within the diagram you can select a cell, a
group of cells. Behavour is as there is no diagram. A double click in the
diagram results in highlighting a cell and the message, that a protected cell
can't be changed.
Think that shouldn't be so. I assume that there must be a message, that the
diagram can't be changed, not the cells under the diagram.
