If you are type "SDJKASJ ASKDJSL" with the shift key manually held down in a field it should type exactly that, just like in the text box I'm typing right now. In OOoBase it cancels (i.e. you lose all your work which can be significant if you are typing in a memo field) your entry just after you hit the space bar in that field and highlights the column. It also does this silliness in the the query tool.
