So, this is the verdict: If you look at the difference between the two files
exported as indented flat xml, you will see that the issue is caused by the
absence of <draw:page-thumbnail .../> tag in the original one. Since this file
was produced by the ppt import. It would be very advisable to see why these
property was not created on import. I modified the file by creating this tag
with the dimensions and the position from the <draw:custom-shape .../> tag (+
also an automatic style that corresponds to this object). And the thumbnails
suddenly appear correctly. I guess, it could be very easy to fix for someone who
is familiar with the code, since all the information we need is already
imported.
