are you using SunRay to display your virtual machine ? On a 1600x1200 display ?
These show line artifacts sometimes (see issue 85943), native and on virtual
machines running e.g. windows. However that is a Sunray problem AFAIK.
As for invalidate: there is no platform specific thing that is done in vcl.
