We tried to change auto extension handling for 2.4 but failed due to the inconsistent behavior of the different Windows breeds. Maybe we can revive that effort again for 3.0 or later. So if we see this issue as part of the unpredictable auto extension behavior it is part of the problem outlined in issue 78854. I suggest to mark the current issue as duplicate of 78854.
