Put more generally: Why not allow gradients and other "fill styles" (as they are available for graphic objects) for ANY object's backgrounds, as f.e. - page backgrounds (this issue) - table cells (issue 44934) - paragraph backgrounds (looks nice for heading backgrounds, f.e.
