Working in a Writer document, I paste a short string over a longer string. The
short string is replaced, however the remnant of longer text is still visible;
i.e., the document display does not refresh properly.

Minimizing the Writer window and restoring it will make the display render
properly.

Note that this only presents when you paste the short string in the middle of
the longer string. The behavior is correct if you replace the entire line.

To reproduce:

Open a new Writer document.

Type a long phrase on a single line.

Type a shorter phrase or single word on a separate line.

Copy the short phrase/word to the keyboard.

Select text on the long phrase, beginning at some location to the right of the
beginning of the line. Hit Ctrl-V or Edit Paste to replace the selected text
with the clipboard contents.

Observed behavior: The selected text is replaced but the display artifact of
the original text still remains after the paste occurs.

Minimize the window and restore it, and the 'extra' text will be gone.
