------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Mar 24 12:26:11 +0000 2008 ------- kzyag: I have some sympathy for your reasoning. At the end we - the developers - need the OOXML format like we need blains in the face. OTOH we are making software for users, not for developers. And the demand for an OOXML import is quite huge. So our goal is to have a useful filter in OOo 3.0. While indeed we would be able to make the upcoming OOXML import filter optional I don't see any value in doing so. I think that most our users expect that this filter is part of OOo and OTOH we don't want to maintain a second product line for the few people that think different. If you or anybody else wanted to maintain your own build without the OOXML filter, I could give help explaining how to do that. But that's nothing we can do with our "mainstream" build. I think your idea fits quite well to the export side of OOXML. I can't remember any user demand for that one. It would take us many person years to develop OOXML export filters that come even close to the quality that our current binary filtes have. And the ODF import for MS Office is available and its quality will improve, perhaps much faster than we can implement an OOXML export from scratch. So in the forseeable future I don't see OOXML export in OOo, not even optional. Well, it would surely take only a few months to hack something that can be named "OOXML export" but that wouldn't be much more than a "nice try". A useful filter would take several person years (as the import filter did). Until then all users would be better off with exporting to doc, xls and ppt. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
