I just discovered something more...
If I delete the __db. file before starting OO, it turns out that OO doesn't 
freeze right after the application window appears:
In the application window I may look at the "File" "Window" and "Help" menu. 
Trying to view the "Edit", "View" and "Tools" menus will result in a freeze.
Also, in "Help" menu I cannot hover over "Check for updates" item (it will 
return in an instant freeze as well.. Same happens if I hover over any of the 
files listed in "Recent Documents" below the "File" menu

If I click "File" -> "New"-> "Text document, OO is actuall almost capable of 
creating a new document. OO wil show the empty document before it freezes
