Please disregard all of that. I have now traced down the problem to the following: - relative path checked - open with PDF reader checked - path contains *spaces*. The spaces are converted to %20, this is correct for URI but incorrect for remote goto actions (generated because of "open with PDF reader"). This can easily be reproduced.
