And all of that might be true, but the fundamental problem is issue 88663 now,
i.e. we fork ok but fail to exec on e.g. a missing pstoedit which is perfectly
ok, *but* sal doesn't waitpid on a failed exec but good fork -> defunct process.
I'll hold on to this until that's fixed and clean up the other potential
subproblems then.
