This is also the case in 2.3 and probably all previous issues; I'm not familiar
with the early revs of OOo.

When I click File | Open in any of the applications I use in OOo, I am
presented with the expected OPEN dialog. It opens to the last accessed path,
which is good. However, if the file I want to open is NOT in that path or is
far removed from the path, or especially on a different drive in a different
directory, I must continuously drill-click "UP" until I get all the way to the
top where I can finally choose another drive or directory.
All other programs I've ever used provide a means to also pick a different
drive from a click-point in this dialog box. OOo does not allow this. Instead
one must click UP a directory at a time until they get far enough up the
heirarchy to choose a different directory or drive letter.

MS WORD's File | Open dialog is the best example of this done correctly. No
matter what directory I may be in, it will let me go directly to another drive
letter without having to click my way up the tree to the very top to get access
to another drive letter.
The related listbox doesn't even exist in OOo's presentation.

I consider it an annoyance, not a bug, but it's a huge annoyance at times,
especially when I'm pulling together data from several different sources or
arranging a specific directory sctucture.

Can OOo be gine the same ability? AFAIK OOo is the only application to NOT
allow this sort of navigation in the File Open window (and other windows,
too). If nothing else, OOo could probably link directly to the same
function/api that windows (or whatever OS) uses, and display the very same
window.

Please, allow access to direct drive navigation from the File | Open dialogs.
It would be a great improvement, a negation of an aggravation that occasionally
can get really annoying.

To duplicate it, drill down say five directory levels and open a file on say
drive D. Now click File | Open and open a file on Drive E or any letter other
than D; you'll see what I mean. No repeat that a few times and imagine an
entire afternoon of that; it amounts to a fair amount of time and aggravation
after awhile.

Regards,
