The File Format Specification does not help here. The fact that PowerPoint 97 (which is not capable of tables and though only displaying the shape representation) is having the same display problem shows us that our current implementation is not completely wrong. We do have a workaround: The document needs to be loaded & saved in PowerPoint 2007, then it will be displayed properly in OOo.
