I'm thinking to post a question at the postgres ADMIN mailing list regarding this, it may be ( experience wit other db in the past was such ) that this error state must be explicitly cleared before the connection can be used again. Also, if this does need to be tested I could probably do it using a postgres server and OO.o running linux with VMware (already have the setup ) - I could drop the available memory for the vm down and then load up a table with enough records to force the error when it is opened this way.
