I do not understand your problem. Existing documents always will be opened with
their old grid view settings. The new settings only are valid for the document
from where that preferences have been modified an for new documents. That hasn't
do do anything with ".xls".
Why do you believe "The grid lines in xls files should always have the user
defined default color"?
Pls. specify your OS and Platform!
