When inserting a footnote near the end of a line, a newline is forced even
though the text has room on
the existing line. Here is an example:

<snip>
This is a test1 So is this?2 As is this a footnote that is nearly at the end
of a line, maybe3 Yes that
does it!
</snip>
In my document, a newline was inserted before "maybe3" which is the third
footnote.
