When you format a cell containing a number you can specify the following format
codes:

#. (displays 1000000 as 1000)
#.. (displays 1000000 as 1)

The double dot notation doesn't work when appending a string in the format code:

#." K" (displays 1000000 as 1000 K)
#.." M" (displays 1000000 as 1.. M) <-- Note the two unwanted dots here

This is my first entry here, hope it's clear. ;)
