For background, please see "The Proxy Icon" paragraph in the Apple Human Interface Guidelines: http://developer.apple.com/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/AppleHIGuidelines/XHIGWindows /chapter_18_section_4.html This is *very* convenient for drag-n-dropping files as attachments in emails.
